IBA’27 board of trustees announced

The members of the board of trustees of International Building Exhibition 2027 StadtRegion Stuttgart (IBA’27) have been named. IBA Director Andreas Hofer announced the names in Stuttgart on Tuesday at the second IBA plenary session. Four public specialist forums have commenced their work at the IBA plenary session to bundle the knowledge from the Stuttgart Region.

The board of trustees of International Building Exhibition 2027 StadtRegion Stuttgart (IBA’27) will comprise twelve experts with an international background, who will enrich the work of the IBA through their objectivity. IBA Director Andreas Hofer presented the twelve board members with expertise in different disciplines in Stuttgart on Tuesday at the second IBA plenary session. The task of the specialist board appointed by the supervisory board of IBA 2027 GmbH is to refine the requirements for the IBA projects and recommend that the proposed projects be included in the exhibition programme. Furthermore, the board of trustees will accompany the content of the IBA’27 with an objective view. Four public specialist forums have commenced their work at the IBA plenary session to bundle the knowledge from the Stuttgart Region.

»In 2027, the IBA wants to showcase the avant-garde to the world. To do this, we have to have the discussion about the future of the city and the region now in a broad-based and international context«, says Andreas Hofer. »This is why we targeted people with international experience for the board of trustees. They stem more from a younger generation that will shape the discourse around this topic in the coming years. The object of the board of trustees is to ensure that the IBA projects are truly ground-breaking. The board can establish contacts and should act as a key driver of the content of IBA’27 with independent ideas.«

Thomas S. Bopp, Chairman of the supervisory board of IBA 2027 GmbH and Chairman of Verband Region Stuttgart says: »We now have an excellent mix of different experience on the board of trustees. All of the experts presented have demonstrated excellence in their work and represent the status quo of knowledge of the topics relevant for IBA’27. Acting as a sparring partner for the IBA team, the supervisory board and local experts, the board of trustees with its broad expertise can make a key contribution to ensuring the quality of the concept and content of IBA’27.«

Lord Mayor of Stuttgart and Vice Chairman of the supervisory board of IBA 2027 GmbH Fritz Kuhn says: »I am delighted that such highly respected persons have been appointed to the board of trustees. Together with the public specialist forums, which combine the knowledge and wealth of ideas from the city and the region, the board’s fresh and unbiased view can play a central role in the discussion and acceptance of IBA’27. Whole new approaches to designing our future can emerge – like they did a hundred years ago in Weissenhof.«

The board of trustees will commence its work in the spring of 2019. At the first meeting, the board will use the first project proposals to look at the qualities and requirements for the IBA projects. The board of trustees will also liaise regularly with the specialist forums on the topics »Politics and society«, »Business and mobility«, »Research and technology« and »Planning and building«.

The forums are open to all interested members of the public and convene several times a year. They bundle the knowledge and involvement of institutions, organisations, experts and the general public at regional level. The board of trustees and the forums are expected to meet once a year for a plenary session.
