Quartier Böckinger Straße – Böckinger Straße Neighbourhood

An urban neighbourhood with a good social mix is to be created on the ›Böckinger Straße‹ site in Stuttgart-North. The neighbourhood will have an architecturally sophisticated high density with an appropriate amount of building diversity and strong urban qualities. The neighbourhood is closely linked to the existing Rot part of town and the neighbouring green spaces and leisure areas. The municipal housing association SWSG wants to realise experimental building typologies and experimental types of housing here, also in collaboration with Evangelische Gesellschaft EVA, which runs a men’s shelter on the site. The key aspects are inexpensive construction combined with excellently designed architecture. Furthermore, the 15-floor EVA high-rise building (built in 1967) will be refurbished and converted as an example of how to approach post-war modernist buildings. The urban planning competition held by SWSG in cooperation with IBA’27 was won in January 2020 by Hild und K (Munich/Berlin) together with Studio Vulkan, Landschaftsarchitekten (Munich, Zurich).
