Learning to build for the future
In order to strengthen the next generation and promote sustainable construction through further training opportunities, the Baden-Württemberg Construction Industry Association (Verband Bauwirtschaft Baden-Württemberg e.V.) is creating a sustainable educational location that combines spaces for learning, living and meeting in a space-saving and climate-friendly way.

Whether rainwater retention basins, infiltration systems, underground heat storage facilities or low-sealing roads: civil engineering structures can make an important contribution to climate improvement. In the Remstal valley, not far from Stuttgart, trainees in the construction industry have been learning the practical skills of their profession since the 1970s. Originally established primarily for building construction, the Bau training centre in Remshalden-Geradstetten now focuses on civil engineering professions and construction equipment operation. On the green riverbank, a compact ensemble of workshops with additional seminar and accommodation buildings will replace the ageing existing structures, leaving plenty of space for leisure and socialising with generous open areas. Visible constructions such as supporting structures in steel and timber frame construction and floors made of recycled concrete processed in various ways demonstrate the appropriate use of materials, while halls connected in a windmill pattern with associated open building yards enable collaborative, cross-disciplinary work with short distances. Green open spaces with biotope and retention areas serve as recreational areas and thus exemplify the structural implementation of climate-improving measures.
